Different industrial environments and requirements make the selection of connector housings crucial. A proper selection can yield significantly better results. As a professional industrial connector provider, WAIN offers a remarkably diverse range of housing options.
In this issue, we will introduce the classification and application areas of WAIN connectors for protective housings.
01. Classified by IP address level
To meet customers' requirements for connector protection levels, WAIN offers the following housing protection levels: IP65, IP67, IP68, IP69K...
A Brief Introduction to IP Levels
The first number indicates the level of protection against the entry of solid foreign objects, starting from 0 and going up to 6.
0: No protection; no special protection against people or objects from the outside world.
1. Prevent the intrusion of solid foreign objects with a diameter of not less than 50mm;
2. Prevent the intrusion of solid foreign objects with a diameter of not less than 12.5 mm;
3. Prevent the intrusion of solid foreign objects with a diameter of not less than 2.5 mm;
4. Prevent the intrusion of solid foreign objects with a diameter of not less than 1.0 mm;
5. Dustproof: While it cannot completely prevent dust from entering, the amount of dust entering will not affect the normal operation of the appliance.
6: Dust-proof, preventing dust from entering.
The second number indicates the level of protection against water ingress, starting from 0 and going up to 9K.
0: No protection; no special protection against water and moisture.
1. Prevent water from dripping vertically; vertical dripping should have no harmful effects.
2: Prevents water from dripping vertically when the casing is tilted at 15°, while still protecting against water ingress;
3. Prevent sprayed water from seeping in, such as rainwater and water droplets sprayed at a 60° angle;
4. To prevent water from splashing from all directions;
5. Prevent water from entering through nozzles in all directions;
6: Resistant to strong water spray (strong water spray in all directions has no harmful effect);
7. To prevent the effects of short-term immersion, after immersion in water at a specified pressure for a specified time, the amount of water entering the outer casing will not reach a harmful level;
8. Anti-diving protection to prevent pressurized water from entering during prolonged immersion;
9K: Achieves the highest waterproof standard, even with high-pressure and steam cleaning;
02. Classified by environmental resistance level
Environmental resistance is one of the important quality characteristics of a product, and it is an important factor that can affect the reliability of the product during transportation, storage and use.
The WAIN housing series includes the M-series housings specifically designed for highly corrosive environments, as well as vibration-resistant housings for rail transportation. The product's operating environment is the fundamental basis for reliability and environmental resistance design. Typical application environments for components include vibration, shock, temperature, humidity, and salt spray.
Taking salt spray test data as an example, WAIN conducts neutral salt spray tests on products according to standard requirements, and corrosion-resistant products can meet the highest industry requirement of 720h salt spray.
03. Classification by electromagnetic shielding
To ensure that equipment or systems can operate normally in electromagnetic environments without causing unbearable electromagnetic interference to other electrical equipment in those environments, WAIN has launched a high-sensitivity interconnect housing suitable for applications requiring electromagnetic interference shielding. The highest protection level is IP67 or IP68. The surface treatment of the original housing has been improved, and sandblasting or tumble polishing has been combined to make the product more resistant to impacts and dirt while maintaining the original metallic feel.
04. Classified by plastic/metal composition
The WAIN plastic casing is made of PA6 + 30% GF, providing mechanical strength and a lighter weight. It is also less expensive than metal casings. This plastic material is suitable for indoor applications requiring resistance to chemical corrosion. Under normal conditions, the plastic casing exhibits excellent chemical resistance to substances such as alkalis, alcohols, ethers, ketones, hydrocarbons, oils, as well as soaps, fresh water, and seawater.
The WAIN metal casing is mostly made of aluminum alloy and zinc alloy, which has higher hardness and strength, and also a longer product life.
