Eight grounding precautions for servo drives

In servo systems, do you know what precautions should be taken when grounding a servo driver? Let's take a look.

Here are 8 important points to note regarding servo driver grounding:

① The correct shielding ground point is at the reference potential point inside the circuit. This point depends on whether the noise source and the receiver are grounded at the same time or floating.

② Ensure that the shielding layers are grounded at the same point so that ground current does not flow through the shielding layers.

③ Avoid ground loops created by multiple ground connection methods, which are easily affected by noise and generate current at different reference points.

④ In the absence of isolation between the AC power supply and the DC bus of the driver, the non-isolated port of the DC bus or the non-isolated signal should not be connected to the ground, as this may lead to equipment damage and personal injury.

⑤ Avoid connecting the servo drive to the ground of an external power supply, as this will directly affect the operation of the controller and the drive.

⑥ The common voltage of AC is not to the ground. There may be a very high voltage between the DC bus and the ground. Direct grounding is prohibited.

⑦ In a servo system, the common ground and the earth ground must be connected together at the signal end.

⑧ To maintain a constant command reference voltage, the servo drive's signal ground should be connected to the controller's signal ground.
