Users can modify the spanning tree parameters as needed, but it is recommended to use the factory default settings. Only change the default values if absolutely necessary. The spanning tree parameters that users can modify include:
Bridge priority: The value ranges from "0" to "65535", with 0 having the highest priority.
Call time: The value ranges from "1" second to "10" seconds. It refers to the time interval during which the root bridge sends BPDU data unit packets to all switches to inform other switches that it is the root bridge. If you set a call time for your switch before it becomes the root bridge, this call time will come in handy once your switch becomes the root bridge.
Maximum bridge aging time: The value ranges from "6" seconds to "40" seconds. If no BPDU packet is received from the root bridge after the maximum aging time has expired, your switch will act as the root bridge and send BPDU packets to all other switches, if permitted. If the switch does indeed have the minimum bridge flag level, then it will become the root bridge.
Bridge forwarding latency: The value ranges from "4" seconds to "30" seconds, which refers to the listening time required for a switch port to change from a blocked state to a forwarding state.
Port priority: The value ranges from "0" to "255". The smaller the value, the more likely the port is to become the root port. When users want to change the spanning tree parameters, please remember the following formula:
The maximum bridge aging time is less than or equal to 2 x (bridge forwarding delay - 1 second), i.e., Max.Age <= 2 x (ForwardDelay - 1).
The maximum bridge aging time is >= 2 x (call time + 1 second), i.e., Max.Age >= 2 x (HelloTime + 1).
