Medium-speed wire EDM is mainly used in mold making, and it is also increasingly widely used in the machining of templates, cams, forming tools, precision small parts, and special materials. Some customers may not pay much attention to the installation environment of medium-speed wire EDM machines. After purchasing a medium-speed wire EDM machine, they may simply place it in a corner of the factory workshop. In fact, medium-speed wire EDM machines require a certain installation environment; otherwise, there is a risk of machine malfunction.
The selection of the operating environment is directly related to the wire EDM machine and its operators. A poorly chosen environment can have the following impacts: First, it can damage the performance and precision of the equipment, shortening its lifespan; second, it can affect the machining accuracy of the workpiece, resulting in poor quality; and third, it can harm the safety and health of the operators. Therefore, please refer to the following considerations when selecting the operating environment:
1. Meet the space requirements of the wire EDM machine.
2. Choose a location that can accommodate the weight of the machine tool.
3. Choose a location free from vibration and impact. Wire EDM machines are high-precision machining equipment. If the location where they are placed experiences vibration and impact, it will cause serious damage to the machine, severely affecting its machining accuracy, shortening its service life, and even rendering the machine unusable.
4. Choose a dust-free location and avoid areas near busy passageways:
(1) Due to the inherent characteristics of wire EDM machines, the presence of dust in the air will cause severe wear on the machine's lead screw, thus affecting its service life.
(2) The wire EDM machine is controlled by a computer. The disk used by the computer has a very strict requirement for dust in the air. When dust enters the disk, the disk will be damaged, and the hard drive will also be damaged.
(3) The wire EDM machine generates a lot of heat, so the electrical cabinet needs to be ventilated frequently. If there is too much dust in the air, it will accumulate on the electrical components during the ventilation process, causing poor heat dissipation of the electrical components and eventually burning out the circuit boards. Therefore, the dust screen of the machine should be cleaned frequently.
5. Choose a location with minimal temperature fluctuations, avoiding direct sunlight through windows and skylights, and areas near warm drafts:
(1) High-precision parts processing needs to be carried out at a stable temperature, usually room temperature 20°C;
(2) Because the wire EDM machine generates a considerable amount of heat during operation, if the temperature changes too much, it will seriously affect the service life of the machine.
6. Select a shielded room: Because the wire EDM process is an arc discharge process, strong electromagnetic waves are generated during the arc discharge process, which can damage human health and affect the surrounding environment.
7. Select a well-ventilated and spacious factory building so that operators and machine tools can work in the best environment.
