Electrical schematic diagram reading skills

For electricians, circuit diagrams are an essential skill in electrical work. To quickly understand complex electrical schematics, besides having basic electrical knowledge, certain techniques are also required!

Any complex circuit diagram is built from basic, simple circuit diagrams, only with added comprehensive protection or more complex design functions; the underlying principles remain the same. To quickly understand complex circuit diagrams, you can refer to the following methods:

First, accumulate professional electrical engineering knowledge!

1. First, you must at least understand the basic principles and basic structure of circuits, especially the part about electrical drives.

2. Be proficient in understanding the functions and roles of the components that make up an electrical drive circuit.

For example, what changes will occur to the contacts of an AC contactor after it is energized, and what dynamic reactions will occur in the corresponding circuit?

3. Accumulate basic circuit diagrams.

Any complex circuit diagram is composed of basic circuit diagrams. You can start by mastering the basic and commonly used circuits, such as: motor forward and reverse rotation control circuit, motor star-delta reduced voltage starting circuit, motor dual speed regulation circuit, etc.

Ideally, you should be able to draw it based on your own thorough understanding. Having a solid foundation in basic circuits is extremely important!

Second, you also need to have diagram reading skills to quickly understand complex electrical schematics.

1. Quickly view the diagram: Main circuit ~ Control circuit.

First look at the main circuit, then the control circuit. The operating principle of the main circuit is relatively simple, allowing you to quickly grasp what the entire circuit does. This makes it easier to connect it to similar basic control circuits, which makes looking at the secondary control circuit much simpler.

2. Quick image viewing: View the image from top to bottom.

A standard circuit diagram explains the circuit's protection, control, and operating principles step by step from top to bottom. The same applies to the control of secondary circuits; reading the circuit diagram from top to bottom will make the process much more efficient.

3. The secondary circuit is viewed in parts.

A typical circuit diagram will indicate the function or purpose of each circuit on the right or bottom side of the drawing.

At this point, looking at it in parts, separating the control circuit into protection circuits, measurement circuits, control circuits, etc., helps to quickly grasp the principle.

4. To quickly interpret a drawing, you need to pay attention to the line numbers! Line numbers!

In a standard circuit diagram, every line and every terminal has a wire number. The wire number is the name of the wire, and wires with the same number have the same branch and function. Quickly understanding complex circuit diagrams by starting with the wire numbers is also a good method.

5. Most importantly: Circuit principles + experience!

Look at diagrams more often and try to understand the principles. As you accumulate more knowledge, looking at diagrams will become easy and effortless. Once you master it easily, complex problems will be a piece of cake.

Of course, there are many other ways to quickly interpret diagrams; this is purely based on experience! Please feel free to correct any inaccuracies; thank you! Welcome to follow and exchange electrical engineering knowledge together!
