In terms of oil content, the terms "oil-containing" and "oil-free" in air compressors generally refer to the amount of oil in the gas discharged from the compressor's exhaust port. Oil-containing compressors typically have a higher oil content, while oil-free compressors have an oil content of 0.01 ppm. Therefore, this oil content is used to distinguish between oil-containing and oil-free air compressors. There is also a completely oil-free air compressor, which does not use oil lubrication but rather resin lubrication. Therefore, the final discharged gas contains no oil, hence the name "completely oil-free air compressor."
Structurally, the bearings of oil-free and oil-lubricated air compressors are essentially the same. However, their working principles differ significantly. Oil-free air compressors operate without oil. Whether it's an oil-free piston compressor or an oil-free screw compressor, they generate substantial amounts of heat during operation. In contrast, oil-lubricated air compressors use oil to dissipate the high temperatures generated during compression, thus cooling the machine.
However, oil-free air compressors do not involve oil, and they also generate a lot of high temperatures during the compression process. How can the high temperature be solved to ensure the normal operation of the machine? In fact, oil-free air compressors use a special high-temperature resistant material called Teflon or molybdenum disulfide inside, which replaces oil and solves the high temperature problem in the air compressor compression process, thereby achieving the purpose of oil-free compression.
Oil-free air compressors are cleaner and more environmentally friendly than oil-lubricated air compressors to some extent. Therefore, they are very suitable for use in institutions such as hospitals, laboratories, and schools, and these institutions prefer to use oil-free air compressors.
