Polyester-glass fiber tape is short for polyester fiberglass tape. It is a product made of plain weave with alkali-free glass fiber filaments as weft and polyester fiber filaments as warp. It is mainly used for binding coils of large and medium-sized electrical products such as motors and transformers.
In motor windings, whether rigid or flexible, polyester glass tape, commonly known as PST, may be used. For flexible windings, polyester glass tape is used to bind the ends of the windings, while for some rigid windings, polyester glass tape is used to wrap the entire coil.
The motor windings use polyester glass tape, mainly because of the heat shrinkage property of the polyester glass tape. After the windings are impregnated and dried, the polyester glass tape will shrink due to heat, which plays a certain role in fixing the windings. On the other hand, the polyester glass tape provides a certain degree of insulation and protection for the windings.
For soft windings, depending on the requirements, the windings are wrapped in a pattern or fully wrapped, which not only solidifies the insulation but also effectively protects the windings during later use. For hard windings, the coils are wrapped with polyester glass tape, which provides both insulation and protection during the winding process.
Classification of motor windings
Based on the shape and mounting method of the stator windings, windings can be classified into concentrated windings and distributed windings. Motor stators using distributed windings typically have several coils arranged in a specific pattern to form coil groups. Depending on the mounting and arrangement of these coils, they can be further divided into concentric and lapped types. Most motors generally use distributed windings to improve the magnetomotive force waveform.
● Concentric winding. This type of winding consists of several coils of different sizes arranged in a loop shape around a central position. Depending on the arrangement, it can form a double-plane or triple-plane winding. Small power motors often use concentric windings.
●Laminated windings. Laminated windings consist of coils of the same shape, with one or two coil sides embedded in each slot, stacked one on top of the other at the outer end of the slot and evenly distributed. Depending on the number of coil sides embedded in each slot, lapped windings are further divided into single-layer lapped windings and double-layer lapped windings. According to the variation in the embedding and wiring method, single-layer lapped windings can be further divided into single-layer chain windings, single-layer cross windings, and single-double-layer mixed windings. Laminated windings are commonly used in the stator windings of three-phase motors.
