What are the common types of embedded motherboards?

An embedded motherboard can generally be considered a CPU board embedded outside the device for control and data processing—essentially the device's "central brain." Because it's embedded inside the device, there are significant requirements regarding the size and power consumption (and heat dissipation) of the embedded motherboard. So, do you know what types of embedded motherboards are available?

I. RISC Motherboard

Embedded motherboard manufacturers explain that the RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computer) system camp is broad, with common examples including MIPS, PowerPC, ARC, and ARM. However, while these all fall under the RISC category, their instruction set design and processing unit architecture differ, making them incompatible. Software developed for a specific platform needs to be recompiled before it can be used directly on another hardware platform.

II. CISC Motherboard

CISC (Complex Instruction Set Computer) processors are the fundamental processing unit of desktop computer systems. At the heart of each microprocessor is the circuitry that executes instructions. Instructions consist of multiple processes that perform tasks, such as transferring values into memory or performing addition operations. CISC is a type of microprocessor that executes a complete set of computer instructions. RISC machines require high-performance microprocessors to ensure faster operation speeds (millions of instructions per second, or MIPS).

Embedded motherboards are characterized by their small size, high integration, and low power consumption, and are used in many fields of life. Generally speaking, the basic types of embedded motherboards are RISC and CISC, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Currently, RISC processors are developing more rapidly and occupy a more important position.
