The MT7688 supports two operating modes: IoT gateway mode and IoT device mode.
In IoTgateway mode, it can connect to an 802.11ac chipset via a PCIe interface and act as a dual-band 802.11ac synchronization gateway. The high-speed USB 2.0 interface allows the MT7688 to connect to additional 3G/LTE modem hardware or to an H.264 ISP for wireless IP camera applications. IoTgateway mode also supports hardware required for smart home applications such as touchpads, Bluetooth Low Energy, Zigbee/Z-Wave, and Sub-1GHz RF.
In IoT device mode, the MT7688 supports eMMC, SD-XC, and USB 2.0, and can play high-quality Wi-Fi audio via a 192Kbps/24bits I2S interface, or perform VoIP applications via PCM. It also supports various peripheral interfaces, including PWM, SPI slave, three UARTs, and more GPIO interfaces.

The BOJINGnet_L107 core module is a universal WiFi smart module based on the Taiwan MTK MT7688/MT7628, compliant with IEEE 802.11b/g/n standards. It supports 5 configurable Ethernet wired interfaces (WAN/LAN), 1 USB Host interface, 1 SD card interface, 1 audio IIS interface, a serial communication IIC interface, 3 serial UART interfaces, and several GPIOs. It is suitable for many applications such as wired to WiFi, 4G to WiFi, ceiling-mounted APs, 4G routers, wireless speakers, wireless storage expansion, wireless image transmission, data pass-through, etc.; and has passed FCCC EROHS and other relevant certifications.
