RECOM has introduced the RACM1200-V, a new built-in power supply with ultra-high output power.
Every developer eagerly awaits the moment their prototype finally functions properly, with all critical functions implemented and the software running smoothly (except for diagnostics). At the next meeting, he proudly announced that all that was needed at this stage was EMC certification and a suitable power supply. However, due to limited resources, designing the power supply themselves wasn't a good option as it could lead to missing critical deadlines. Therefore, the team agreed to purchase a third-party product, and the developers began searching for a power supply. While such products are readily available, selecting the right component is often far more complex than it seems. In our case, the product had to meet Standard X, Protection Class Y, and even 2 MOPP, because the power supply had been decided upon for use in a recently launched ventilator. Most importantly, the developers also needed to consider the MTBF value. Imagine a patient connected to the ventilator, and the power supply suddenly fails… This, of course, must be avoided at all costs! Therefore, the developers needed to know how long the power supply could safely operate without maintenance. This article about RECOM's RACM1200-V can answer some of these questions.
RECOM believes that the safest option is the only option, and this was kept in mind when designing the RACM1200-V. The power supply must also pass all the necessary certifications.
The RACM1200-V sets a new standard for compact design, covering an extremely wide power range and operating reliably without fan cooling. A special board ensures effective heat dissipation and delivers up to 1000W of continuous output power. The RACM1200-V features two additional outputs, eliminating the need for an external power supply in some applications, and provides a 12V adjustable system fan output and a 5V/1A standby output.
Because of the 4kVAC isolation voltage between the supply voltage and the output voltage, the RACM1200-V can be used in almost any application requiring power, such as chargers, LED lighting systems, laser equipment, analytical instruments, high-frequency devices, robots, medical chairs, and medical devices that come into direct contact with patients. RECOM can provide designers with power supplies that meet their specifications.
Although the RACM1200-V is certified to IEC 60601-1, it does not guarantee that the equipment to be installed with it will also comply with the standard. However, using a certified power supply is one of the prerequisites for meeting the standard, which not only reduces development costs but also speeds up the certification process for the final product.
The RACM1200-V offers 2MOPP-certified (MOPP = Patient Protection Measures) insulation and minimal leakage current, meaning it meets patient safety standards for medical devices.
The isolation between the signal output and the 5V output and the power supply voltage is 1.5kVAC.
The RACM1200-V series features an integrated EMC filter, easily meeting EN 55032:2015 Class B requirements for radiated and line interference. The new RECOM power supply complies with all international safety standards relevant to industrial applications, IT products, and medical devices.
The RACM1200-V has an input voltage range of 85 VAC to 264 VAC, allowing for continuous output up to 1000W. It features a 40mm high metal housing with a package area of only 102mm x 229mm, allowing for contact cooling. It can deliver up to 1200W of output power for 10 seconds. For continuous 1200W output, the power supply must be equipped with a fan and ensure an airflow of 2.5m/s. This is why the RACM1200-V also features an auxiliary control output for temperature management.
