In my country, with the rapid development of the national economy and information technology, the government has increased its investment in power grid construction. Coupled with the continuous advancement of the domestic security industry, there is a growing demand for wires and cables, all of which have stimulated the tremendous growth of the domestic wire and cable industry. As an important connection and transmission medium for security systems, security cables have also experienced significant development along with the comprehensive application of security systems in social life.
Security Cable Trend Analysis
With the continuous advancement of science and technology and the booming development of the information industry, the demand for wires and cables in national construction is constantly increasing. Various specifications and models of wires and cables are being used in emerging high-tech industries such as security, fire protection, communications, and networking. With the rapid growth of the security industry in recent years, its applications have gradually expanded from government units to businesses and communities, and are now penetrating into every household.
According to incomplete statistics, the cable market is growing at a rate of 8%-12% annually, with security cables experiencing even faster growth at 15%-20%. Compared to industries such as power, telecommunications, and broadcasting, the security cable industry faces challenges such as a late start, outdated technology and equipment, and a smaller scale. Major domestic cable manufacturers are mainly concentrated in the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta regions, and are generally categorized by company size and characteristics as: foreign-invested enterprises, domestic specialized enterprises, and small-scale enterprises.
Foreign companies have also recognized the enormous potential of China's cable industry and have set up factories in China with the aim of penetrating the Chinese cable market. These include well-known cable brands such as Belden (USA), Pirelli (Italy), and Nexans (France). Their products cover almost all areas of wire and cable manufacturing, from 220-500kV high-voltage and ultra-high-voltage cross-linked cables to tiny electronic cables—they produce everything imaginable, and their factories vary in size. However, because these brands' products are relatively expensive, they are generally used in demanding professional markets, so their market share is not very high.
Leading domestic security cable manufacturers, such as Dongguan Jinlinyu, offer high-quality products at reasonable prices and are currently expanding rapidly; Yangzhou Diyi is a joint-stock company producing high and low voltage electrical control equipment, marine (ship) cables, and low-voltage cables; Ningbo Yizhou is one of the largest professional building intelligent system engineering design and product manufacturing enterprises in China, and so on. These companies possess advanced professional equipment, professional R&D and production technologies, and their products are of stable quality and meet standards.
Privately owned small businesses are mostly small manufacturers invested in by individuals. Although some of these businesses have certain production capabilities, most remain at the workshop level, investing only a few hundred thousand yuan to purchase a few essential production equipment before commencing production. Much of their production relies on manual labor, lacking professional testing equipment and methods, resulting in chaotic production management. On-site production workers are both the manufacturers and inspectors of the products. This unregulated production leads to the emergence of counterfeit, substandard, and low-performance cables, negatively impacting the operation and development of the cable market.
While the security cable industry in my country exhibits a wide range of quality, there are still leading players, such as Jinlinyu, Diyi, Qiuyeyuan, and Tiancheng. Leveraging their strong R&D and production capabilities, these companies have distinguished themselves in the chaotic competition within the security cable market, driving continuous advancements in security cable technology.
Four major development directions for security cables
I. New technologies and products are widely used, and product technology has entered the era of standardization.
To better promote the security industry and ensure the harmonious development of social life and work, security cable products must inevitably develop towards greater safety and efficiency. As one of the world's most important R&D and manufacturing bases for cable products, China currently possesses a series of cable products with unique performance and special structures, including flame-retardant and fire-resistant, high-temperature and low-temperature resistant, low-inductance and low-noise, green and environmentally friendly, low-smoke and halogen-free, termite- and rodent-resistant, waterproof and moisture-proof properties, and these products have already achieved a certain level of production capacity. With the continuous improvement of societal requirements for security and system safety, through extensive publicity, promotion, and collaboration among the government, industry, and enterprises, we believe that the aforementioned high-performance and highly safe new technology cable products will be widely used in security systems, just as they have in developed Western countries.
Industry standards are the foundation for industry and enterprise development, and product technical standards are an effective guarantee of product quality. With the increasing development and maturity of China's security industry, relevant national authorities are vigorously promoting standardization within the industry, and the formulation of technical standards for security cable products has been included in the next stage of their work plan. We believe that, with the joint efforts of the government, industry, and enterprises, the production and quality assurance of security cable products will be governed by regulations and laws, and the technology and application of security cables will rapidly advance towards a more reliable and professional field.
II. Industry concentration continues to increase, with leading enterprises occupying the mainstream market.
China's security industry started from scratch and grew through competition, eventually reaching a considerable scale after decades of development. Driven by global economic integration, leading companies will inevitably emerge in different product categories, leading to a continuous increase in industry concentration. Only with industry concentration and the emergence of leading companies can the industry establish a shared development philosophy. Only then can companies move beyond basic survival considerations and focus on scientific management, core technologies, and core products—the most crucial aspects for the healthy development of the industry—and avoid unfair competition based on low quality and low-end products. The chaotic competition among numerous cable manufacturers of varying sizes and quality, and the vicious competition among manufacturers lacking technical strength and financial resources for short-term gains and survival, will gradually come to an end.
Leading companies in China's security industry are beginning to emerge, and the domestic security cable market has formed several mainstream enterprises. These companies, through continuous product expansion and channel development, as well as improved corporate management and team building, are gaining increasing acceptance and recognition from the industry and users in terms of brand influence, overall product quality improvement, and standardized services. It is believed that as industry concentration continues to increase and the production scale of these companies continues to expand, the productivity generated by economies of scale will be fully reflected in the market. High-performance, cost-effective products coupled with standardized services will inevitably capture the vast majority of the security cable market share.
Third, with increasing user attention, the concept of "full compatibility and end-to-end service" is becoming increasingly apparent.
Cables play a crucial role in security systems, transmitting vital data, images, and other information. However, insufficient attention paid to cable procurement by users and contractors has frequently led to quality issues affecting the entire system due to improper cable selection, resulting in losses and negative impacts. Past lessons have prompted more and more users and contractors to focus on cable quality and proper use, gradually shifting away from the price-driven approach to security cable selection. We are pleased to see that, through the joint efforts and promotion of the government, industry, contractors, and manufacturers, the coexistence of high-end equipment and low-quality cables in security systems is decreasing, and the vital role of security cables in system operation is increasingly being recognized.
Security engineering requires a perfect combination of different functional equipment, and ensuring the reliability of the transmission components is crucial to the entire security system. While security cables are a major component of the transmission system, the compatibility and consistency of transmission performance between different models and specifications, as well as the compatibility, matching, and stability between cables and connected equipment, are often overlooked by industry users. Future security cable manufacturers will not only focus on simply providing products, but will also extend their product chains and strengthen their service concepts, offering users fully compatible products and providing comprehensive technical support and services for their correct and reasonable use. This will undoubtedly become the market development trend of the security industry.
IV. International cooperation and development are an unstoppable trend
"To become a world-class security company and build an international national brand for China's security industry" has become the development goal and mission of outstanding companies in the industry. Guided by this belief, Chinese security products have penetrated extensively into various fields of the global security industry. International cooperation between domestic companies and companies in advanced developed countries has been fully launched.
Currently, several of the strongest domestic security cable companies have adapted to the internationalization trend of market development. Several years ago, they began to formulate and launch comprehensive globalization strategies. Through extensive cooperation and exchanges in technology, capital, and management, they have introduced advanced technologies and management concepts from foreign companies, enabling their strength to rapidly improve and develop. Furthermore, they have actively ventured abroad to seek international markets and increase product exports, with a large number of security cable products now exported worldwide.
After more than 20 years of vigorous development, China's security industry has seen its application scope continuously expand, its industrial concentration steadily increase, and new technologies and products constantly entering the industry. The market size of the security industry is poised for rapid growth. Domestic security cable companies, with increasingly standardized industry order and a healthier market environment, are also benefiting from continuous improvement in their own strength and the expansion of their products and services. Like China's overall security industry, the security cable industry is flourishing and is destined for robust development.
