This smoke detector solution is designed around a microcontroller and an MQ-2 smoke sensor. It can provide smoke alarm, smoke concentration display, watchdog self-test for the microcontroller status, and manual emergency alarm functions. The smoke detector primarily works by measuring the balance of positive and negative charges in the air using a sensor. Inside the sensor, there is a small piece of radioactive material that generates a tiny current in the air flowing within the sensing chamber. A computer chip on the circuit board monitors this current. When smoke particles enter the sensing chamber, they disrupt the balance of positive and negative charges, causing changes in this current.
