3D printing technology is reportedly offering significant advantages for the design of liquid electrolyte batteries, increasing battery energy density by 20% and reducing the weight of non-energy-storing copper and aluminum materials by 10%. Blackstone Resources has already tested this technology, finding that it reduces costs by 70% compared to traditional battery manufacturing methods. Furthermore, this production technology is very safe because it does not use environmentally harmful flammable liquid electrolytes.
With a specially developed workflow, Blackstone Resources will begin mass production of its existing battery 3D printing technology in 2021, with applications in the automotive industry, marine applications, and new 5G wireless networks, among others.
