What are some things to keep in mind when charging batteries for new energy vehicles?

Currently, more and more people are using new energy vehicles, and green-plated vehicles are quite common on the streets. Charging batteries for new energy vehicles has become a daily necessity for owners. Therefore, the following principles should be observed when charging electric vehicles:

1. Avoid overcharging: Overcharging means not overcharging. Normally, it is best to charge an electric vehicle to about 90%. Long-term full charging will actually accelerate the degradation of battery capacity and lifespan.

2. Avoid over-discharging: Avoid excessive power consumption. Charge the battery promptly when the charge level drops below 30%. Regularly waiting until the charge level drops below 20% before charging will also affect the battery's lifespan, causing a decrease in capacity and range.

3. Avoid using fast charging continuously: Frequent and prolonged use of fast charging will accelerate battery cell polarization, leading to a decrease in capacity. Moreover, the range gained from fast charging is not as good as that gained from slow charging. In daily use, it is best to alternate between fast and slow charging, or use fast charging as the primary method and slow charging as the secondary method, and try not to use fast charging continuously.

4. Do not charge in high-temperature environments: The suitable operating temperature for electric vehicle power batteries is 0-40℃. If the weather is hot and the vehicle has just been used for a period of time, charging at this time will cause the battery temperature to be too high, which may lead to fire and spontaneous combustion in severe cases.

5. Avoid charging in the rain: Although charging stations and vehicle charging ports are now waterproof and insulated, the risk of danger is still higher when charging in the rain. Therefore, it is best to avoid charging outdoors in the rain.

6. Charging time should not be too long or too short: Frequent short charging will accelerate the degradation of battery life, while excessively long charging time may also pose a risk of battery spontaneous combustion. Therefore, remember to unplug the charging gun promptly after charging.

7. Never unplug the charging gun while charging: Whether charging at home or outside, you should always end the charging process through the vehicle's central control screen or the charging station before unplugging the charging gun. Otherwise, it may damage the vehicle's charging system.

8. Do not use extension cords or jumper cables for charging: Due to various reasons, some electric vehicle owners may use extension cords or jumper cables for charging. This behavior poses a safety hazard and may cause a short circuit, potentially leading to a fire.

9. Avoid using grounding plugs as much as possible: Grounding plugs are mainly used to solve the problem of no grounding wire. However, they still pose safety hazards during charging. There is a possibility of short circuits in the circuit. Moreover, charging through a power source without a grounding wire may cause current to flow through the vehicle body, resulting in electric shock.

10. Do not leave people in the car while it is charging: During charging, the battery is in a state of high current and high voltage. Even if the vehicle has a very high charging safety, there are still safety hazards. Do not leave people in the car and try not to linger near the vehicle.
