Correct usage and charging techniques for mobile phone lithium batteries

1. Lithium-ion batteries have a limited lifespan.

We all know that lithium-ion batteries have a limited number of charge cycles, but like everything else, they also have a lifespan. So next time you buy a battery, remember to check the manufacturing date. The newer the better, of course. Because your lithium-ion battery begins its "death" the moment it leaves the factory. The lifespan of a lithium-ion battery depends on many factors. In the best-case scenario, your lithium-ion battery might lose 20% of its maximum charge capacity over a year, starting from its manufacturing date.

2. Do not let your equipment run out of power completely.

You might have wondered why your phone, PDA, or iPod lights up its LCD screen and cheerfully tells you "Your battery is low" before automatically shutting down when the battery is low. The reason is simple: there's an internal circuit in the phone that automatically shuts it down when the battery is too low. This circuit is designed to protect the phone. You can think of it this way: if your lithium-ion battery is too low, it could be permanently damaged. So, try to plug it in and charge it whenever it's convenient.

Remember that a "one" charging cycle means that if you use 50% of the battery on the first day, charge it at night, and then use another 50% on the second day, that is one cycle.

Repeatedly charging a lithium-ion battery without interruption will not reduce its lifespan.

3. Lithium-ion batteries will not be overcharged. They have internal circuit protection. The biggest problem with lithium-ion batteries is overheating. Temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius will reduce the amount of charge a lithium-ion battery can hold.

Regarding the maintenance of mobile phone lithium-ion batteries, just pay attention to them regularly and don't be too strict with yourself. After all, especially with mobile phones, the lifespan of a phone is getting shorter and shorter these days. Many people frequently change their phones every year or even every six months to keep up with the trends. In this situation, lithium-ion batteries are more than capable of handling all that wear and tear, so use them with peace of mind. After all, it's a consumer product, and comfort is the key.

Charging tips:

1. Before leaving the factory, the battery is activated and pre-charged, so the battery has some residual power. Some people say that the battery still has insufficient standby time even after charging according to the adjustment period. Assuming that the battery is indeed a genuine battery, in this case, the adjustment period should be extended and 3 to 5 full charge and discharge cycles should be performed.

2. If the newly purchased mobile phone battery is lithium-ion, the first 3-5 charges are generally called the adjustment period, and should be charged for more than 14 hours to ensure full activation of the lithium ions. Lithium-ion batteries do not have a memory effect, but they have strong inertia. They should be fully activated to ensure optimal performance in future use.

3. Some automated smart fast chargers only indicate a 90% charge when the indicator light changes. The charger will automatically switch to a slower charging speed to fully charge the battery. It is best to use the battery after it is fully charged; otherwise, the battery life will be shortened.

4. Do not intentionally discharge lithium-ion batteries before charging, as improper discharge can damage the battery. When charging, use slow charging as much as possible and reduce fast charging time; do not exceed 24 hours. The internal chemical substances of the battery will be fully activated and achieve optimal performance after three to five complete charge-discharge cycles.

5. Please use original or reputable brand chargers. Lithium-ion batteries must be charged with a dedicated lithium-ion battery charger and the instructions must be followed. Otherwise, the battery may be damaged or even dangerous.

6. Many users often leave their phones on while charging, which can easily damage the phone's lifespan. During charging, the phone's circuit board heats up, and if there is an incoming call at this time, there may be a momentary backflow current, which can damage the internal components of the phone.

7. Battery lifespan depends on the number of charge-discharge cycles, so you should avoid charging the battery when it still has residual power, as this will shorten its lifespan. If your phone has been turned off for more than 7 days, you should fully discharge the battery and then fully charge it before using it again.
