Abstract: This paper introduces a direct drive method suitable for high-speed linear feed systems. The structure and characteristics of the linear motor direct drive unit are briefly described, and the composition, definition, influence on system performance, and calculation method of the stiffness of the direct drive system are discussed. II. Common Structural Forms of Direct-Drive Linear Feed Units and Their Impact on Stiffness In direct-drive linear feed units, the configuration of the linear motor directly affects the structural stiffness of the system. There are two main common basic forms: horizontal and vertical arrangement. The horizontal arrangement, based on the machine tool coordinate axes, can be further divided into single-motor and dual-motor drive methods. 1. A single-motor horizontal configuration where one coordinate axis is driven by one linear motor, as shown in Figure 1. This structure is simple, easy to install, and the machine tool installation height is relatively low. However, the strong electromagnetic attraction between the primary and secondary motors during operation is borne by the machine tool worktable and guide rails. The worktable structure needs to be rationally designed, and the guide rails need to be rationally selected to ensure they have sufficient stiffness and prevent direct contact between the primary and secondary motors during operation. This is suitable for ultra-high-speed, light-load feed systems. For more details, please click: Research on the Stiffness of Direct-Drive Linear Motor Feed Units
