It has developed rapidly in the last ten years and has been widely used in aerospace, mold manufacturing and precision micro-machining. Therefore, the research on high-speed machining technology has become one of the important research projects in the manufacturing field at home and abroad. [b]1 The Concept and Characteristics of High-speed Cutting 1.1 Concept[/b] The concept of high-speed cutting originated from the famous cutting experiment and physical extension of the German cutting physicist Carl Salomn. He believed that there is a critical cutting speed for a certain workpiece material. Its cutting temperature is the highest. Within the conventional cutting range (see region A in Figure 1), the cutting temperature increases with increasing cutting speed. However, once the cutting speed reaches the critical cutting speed, further increases in cutting speed actually decrease the cutting temperature (see Figure 1). Due to limitations in experimental conditions at the time, this theory could not strictly distinguish the boundary between cutting temperature and workpiece temperature. Nevertheless, its idea provided a very important insight: if cutting could be performed beyond region B in Figure 1 and in the high-speed region (region c in Figure 1), it would be possible to perform high-speed cutting with existing tools, thereby significantly reducing cutting time and multiplying machine tool productivity.
