Research on Automatic Control System of Wire Drawing Machine Based on ARM

Abstract : This paper introduces an ARM-based automatic control system for wire drawing machines. Based on the working characteristics of the wire drawing machine, the speed of the constant-speed roller group and the take-up roller is controlled to achieve tension control. Practical operation of the system shows that the system has stable and reliable control performance, good effect, low cost, and is easy to use. Keywords : Wire drawing machine; Frequency converter; Touch screen; SPI; ISP 1 Introduction A wire drawing machine is a specialized device that relies on a motor to drive a drum, and the friction generated by the drum stretches the raw material wire (aluminum-clad steel) through multiple stages of dies to form the finished wire. Wire drawing machines are widely used in industrial production. The key to the wire drawing machine control system is the matching control of the wire feeding and take-up speeds, i.e., wire tension control. Currently, PLCs are mostly used to control wire drawing machines. In response to this situation, this paper proposes an ARM-based automatic control system for wire drawing machines. This system not only achieves the control performance of a PLC control system but also has low cost and strong application value, making it worthy of promotion. The selection of the MCU in this system is based on a comprehensive consideration of cost-effectiveness. The ARM7 series microprocessor LPC2132 is an industrial-grade chip designed by Philips specifically for field applications. It has abundant internal and peripheral expansion resources (including a non-volatile Flash program memory, as well as SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface), ART, IzC and other expansion resources), strong anti-interference ability, and stable operation. It is currently the most widely used 32-bit embedded reduced instruction set computer (RISC) processor, belonging to the low-end ARM processor core. This processor has the following characteristics: it adopts a fixed-length instruction format, the instructions are organized and simple, and there are 2 to 3 basic addressing modes; it uses single-cycle instructions, which are convenient for pipelined operation; it makes extensive use of registers, and data processing instructions only operate on registers. Only load/store instructions can access memory to improve the execution efficiency of instructions; it has abundant internal and peripheral expansion resources, low power consumption, and fast processing speed [1]; its market price is relatively low, so LPC2132 was chosen as the MCU chip of the system.
