Abstract : The BMEI-AMS-1 advanced manufacturing system utilizes computer network technology and adopts the TCP/IP protocol to form a local area network, facilitating the networking of multiple machine tools. It integrates CAD/CAM in a network environment, completing the entire process including solid simulation, post-processing, automatic transmission, and direct machining. It easily connects to INTERNET networks, enabling remote diagnostics, remote services, and real-time image monitoring. It can be equipped with corresponding tools, fixtures, cutting tools, and flow systems according to the technological requirements of the machined object, achieving personalized machining and adapting to mixed-flow production of various batches and multi-specification parts. It is an effective means of agile manufacturing. Keywords : Networking, Integration, Flexibility, CNC system. The competition in 21st-century manufacturing is a competition of flexibility and responsiveness. The BMEI-AMS-1 advanced manufacturing system developed by our institute is a networked, integrated, and flexible manufacturing system developed to meet this demand. As early as 1996, our institute developed a flexible production line with machining centers as the main equipment to meet the needs of the automotive and motorcycle industries. The most typical example is the flexible production line for the left and right crankcases of motorcycle engines. This production line includes 21 machining centers, drilling power heads, cleaning machines, centralized cooling and chip removal systems, material conveyor lines, and matching fixtures, cutting tools, inspection tools, and a computer management system. It can realize multi-variety mixed-flow production to achieve rapid market response. I. Structure of the BMEI-AMS-1 System (see Figure 1) This system consists of a group of CNC machine tools, including one five-axis linkage machining center and four three-axis drive machining centers. The eighteen axes (including four spindles) are controlled by an iT2010 CNC system. The group of machine tools and other machine tools are connected to CAD/CAM workstations and servers through a network to form a network-controlled flexible production line. Hardware environment: Five CNC machine tools, including one five-axis linkage machining center; two computers (one server and one CAD/CAM workstation). Basic configuration: Pentium 650MHz or higher, 128MB RAM, 9GB hard drive; 10M/100M adaptive Ethernet network card; 8-port shared hub. Software environment: Windows NT 4.0 network operating system; PCANYWHERE network control software; VB6.0 compiler; CAD/CAM software.
