Abstract : This paper introduces the control and monitoring of a circular kiln driven by a distributed control system (DCS). The control part of the system consists of an industrial control computer, a programmable logic controller (PLC), an intelligent temperature controller, and a frequency converter. The system employs reasonable system redundancy technology to ensure equipment safety and reliability. The fully automatic control mode greatly reduces the workload of operators, significantly improves production efficiency, and ensures the consistency of production processes. Keywords : DCS, PLC, temperature controller, frequency converter, serial communication, database. This paper describes the design and manufacture of a fully automatic circular kiln driven by a frequency converter, commissioned by Guangzhou Audiway Electronics Co., Ltd. The equipment consists of two kilns, and the basic structure is shown in Figure 2. The control system is required to achieve the following functions : Temperature acquisition and recording: facilitating quality management and sintering status tracking. Parameter adjustment: All adjustable parameters, including temperature and control parameters, can be set and modified at the upper level, and can be expanded to achieve communication and management with the user's local area network. Based on the customer's control requirements, two control methods can be adopted: centralized control and distributed control. Centralized control places high demands on the computer system, and system crashes are unacceptable. A crash would not only paralyze the control system but could even damage the equipment. Therefore, a distributed control approach was ultimately adopted, where equipment control is achieved by reliable control components. Drawing on our company's experience in electroplating equipment control systems, a PLC is used at the lower level to control the equipment, while the upper-level computer only monitors the equipment status in real time, records and stores the monitoring data, and sets the process parameters and system parameters of the temperature controller and the speed of the frequency converter. 2.
