Abstract : This paper introduces the linear feed systems of high-speed cutting machine tools, including the structure, working principle, accuracy and performance requirements, application scope, and improvement measures of two types of feed systems: electro-mechanical servo feed and linear motor driven feed. Keywords : High-speed cutting machine tool; Linear feed system; Electro-mechanical servo feed; Linear motor. High-speed cutting machine tools have high productivity and accuracy requirements. High-speed feed systems ensure high productivity through the highest possible feed speed and acceleration, as well as sufficient continuous feed force or power, while ensuring high accuracy through the highest possible feed trajectory accuracy and geometric accuracy. Furthermore, it is required that the system does not have a continuous adverse effect on the dynamic characteristics and thermal stability of the machine tool structure. This depends on the form and quality of the structural design components, the adjustment principle, and the efficiency of the control system. Linear feed systems of high-speed cutting machine tools can be divided into two types according to their construction principle: electro-mechanical servo systems and linear motor driven systems. 1 Electro-mechanical Servo Feed System The widely used electro-mechanical servo linear feed system typically consists of a variable frequency speed control motor, a mechanical transmission link, and a machine tool slide (see Figure 1). Synchronous motors with digital frequency conversion interfaces are increasingly used as drive sources. To compensate for geometric errors and improve the dynamic performance of linear motion, synchronous motors are connected to ball screw drives via anti-torsional low-inertia couplings. If speed changes or reduction of inertia torque are required to suit motor characteristics, toothed belt drives can be used. To optimize the positioning of high-speed transmission ball screws, it is best to use specially designed radial thrust ball bearings. Molded rolling guides can meet the requirements of high-speed guidance. Direct or indirect position measurement optical systems use incremental counting, and by applying special interpolation methods, the measurement resolution can reach within 1µm at feed rates of (40-60) m/min. Any combination of the above components may lead to contradictory local effects, affecting the efficiency of the high-speed feed system, requiring careful selection and optimization.
