Application of frequency conversion speed regulation energy-saving technology in water supply equipment of Renqiu Oilfield

Abstract : The North China Oilfield Hydropower Plant currently operates 80 water source wells. Due to the long water collection and transmission pipelines and large installed capacity, it has become a major energy consumer in the entire oilfield. Therefore, energy conservation and consumption reduction are the main ways to reduce costs and increase efficiency in the water supply system. The oilfield water supply pump station equipment was designed based on the needs of underground water injection and production and domestic water use in the early stages of the oilfield's development. After years of operational analysis following changes in the nature of water use in the oilfield, it was found that the original units had defects such as low pump unit operating efficiency, energy waste, and poor adaptability to pipeline network operation, resulting in pressure fluctuations and unstable water supply. Through operational analysis of the pump units using variable frequency speed regulation (VFD) for the pumps and fans, the energy conversion between the input power of the pump motor and the shaft power of the output load was achieved. That is, the motor speed adapts to load changes, achieving optimal coordination of functional conversion, avoiding the phenomenon of "overpowered motors pulling small loads," reducing reactive power loss, and thus achieving the goal of energy conservation. Basic Information Since 1976, the Renqiu Oilfield Hydropower Plant has put 12 water source wells into operation, with 80 wells currently in use. These wells are distributed across Renqiu and Anxin areas, supplying water for the production, domestic, and diversified operations of 35 subordinate secondary units. Currently, there are 13 water supply stations, including 6 secondary booster stations and 17 tertiary booster stations, with a 125.78km water collection and transmission pipeline connecting the two major water sources in Renqiu and Anxin, forming a ring network water supply system. The oilfield currently has 158 water supply and extraction units with a total installed capacity of 737 kW, a water supply capacity of approximately 8 × 10⁴ m³/d, and a planned electricity consumption of 0.75 kWh/m³, resulting in an annual electricity consumption of approximately 1383 × 10⁴ kW·h, making it one of the oilfield's major energy consumers. Therefore, energy conservation and consumption reduction are the main ways to reduce costs and increase efficiency in the water supply system.
