Abstract : The TDS-11SA top drive drilling rig manufactured by VARCO Corporation in the United States integrates mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. To adapt to 50Hz/60Hz power supply systems, the TDS-11SA top drive is also equipped with an auxiliary frequency converter that outputs 60Hz power to meet the needs of all auxiliary motors. This article mainly describes the on-site commissioning steps of the auxiliary frequency converter for the TDS-11SA top drive unit. Keywords : Top drive unit, auxiliary frequency converter, central processing unit, commissioning . I. Overview Top drive drilling rigs (hereinafter referred to as "top drives") are a new type of drilling equipment that has emerged in the last decade or so. Their advent has significantly improved drilling capabilities and efficiency, leading to their widespread adoption in the domestic and international drilling markets. Currently, the drive method of top drives has evolved from hydraulic and DC drives to AC variable frequency drives. The TDS-11SA top drive drilling rig manufactured by VARCO Corporation in the United States integrates mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. The advanced and complex electrical and hydraulic systems place high demands on on-site service personnel. The core of the TDS-11SA top drive electrical technology is AC variable frequency drive. In addition to the main frequency converter, the TDS-11SA is also equipped with an auxiliary frequency converter. The auxiliary frequency converter in the TDS-11SA is an added device to adapt to 50Hz/60Hz power supply systems, outputting 60Hz power to meet the needs of all auxiliary motors. If the drilling team directly provides 60Hz/600VAC power, the auxiliary frequency converter is not needed. Most domestic drilling rigs provide 50Hz/600VAC power to the top drive, requiring the use of an auxiliary frequency converter. In exceptional circumstances (when the auxiliary frequency converter fails and cannot be repaired quickly), the auxiliary motors can be temporarily connected directly to the 50Hz/600VAC power supply to ensure uninterrupted drilling operations. However, special care should be taken in this case; the current value of the auxiliary motor must not exceed the rated current value of the motor.
