Abstract : For Pro/ENGINEER, a feature-based parametric design software, a reasonable and effective configuration of the software system's operating environment can improve the user's design quality, shorten the development cycle, and increase its competitiveness. Keywords : frequency converter; parametric design; solid features; environment configuration file 1 Feature-based Parametric Design Concept Part design is the foundation of 3D design. Pro/ENGINEER (hereinafter referred to as Pro/E) software is concise, clear, convenient, and fast in creating solids and surfaces. Solids are created through methods such as extrusion, rotation, and sweeping. Features on the part are interconnected through parameters and geometric constraints. These dimensional relationships are divided into two types: one is the relationship between various user-defined external parameters and the constrained dimensions of the part; the other is the internal constraint relationship between features within the model, i.e., the constraint relationship between the geometric elements of the part, such as equal length, parallelism, perpendicularity, tangency, concentricity, etc. These geometric constraints are created simultaneously when creating the model, and their greatest advantage is the ease of modifying the part. In other words, the Pro/E system emphasizes a feature-based parametric design system, regarding features as the smallest basic elements of the part model. A complete part model can be viewed as a combination of multiple simple features through superposition, cutting, or intersection. Pro/E was developed by Parametric Design Corporation (PTC) in 1986. Due to its later development, it had the opportunity to adopt some advanced CAD theories and technologies from recent years, thus having a higher starting point. For example, Pro/E employs advanced feature-based parametric design technology, making design work highly flexible and convenient. In terms of product information modeling, Pro/E establishes all functional modules on a unified data structure, providing full association between all engineering projects, truly realizing the organic integration of CAD/CAE/CAM. Users can perform parallel design work on the same product simultaneously, thereby improving design quality and shortening the development cycle.
