Abstract: Gears, as fundamental components for transmitting motion and power, have played a vital role in the history of industrial development. This study appropriately introduces computer vision technology into gear measurement, exploring and analyzing the corresponding computer vision measurement system and its implementation. This method boasts high measurement accuracy and efficiency, is easy to operate, and can measure a wide range of items. It is a promising non-contact measurement technology that will undoubtedly drive the progress and development of gear measurement technology and the gear industry. Through research, computer vision technology has been applied to gear measurement, and a corresponding computer vision measurement system (CVMS) has been attempted and analyzed. This measurement technique, with high measurement precision, high efficiency, simple operation, and advanced multifunctions, is a new type of non-contact measurement technology with a bright future of development and application, which will greatly impetus the improvement and development of gear measurement and manufacturing technology. This paper, based on the practical situation of gear measurement, utilizes computer vision technology to study its application in gear measurement. Through this research, computer vision technology and gear measurement technology are combined, fully utilizing the significant advantages of computer vision technology to introduce a new, high-precision, non-contact, comprehensive measurement method for gear measurement. This aims to greatly improve the level of gear measurement and promote the development and progress of the gear industry. The four most important parameters of a gear—addition circle radius, dedendum circle radius, number of teeth, and module—are the focus of this research. 2. Composition of the Measurement Hardware System The experiment uses an image measurement system composed of a Honeywell CCTV CAMERA Model: GC-655P CCD camera, a black-and-white image acquisition card, and an industrial control computer. Incandescent lamps are used for illumination. As shown in Figure 1 [align=center] Figure 1 Block Diagram of Image Measurement System[/align], the specific working process is as follows: the gear to be measured is placed in front of a controllable background with as uniform illumination as possible. A CCD camera captures an image of the gear, and the image data is acquired into the computer memory via an image card. The developed gear image processing and measurement software is used to measure the geometric parameters of the gear, and finally, the measurement results are output by the corresponding output device.
