Hardware and software design for remote electricity meters based on PLC technology

Abstract: With the development of the Internet, data services have become the mainstream of communication services. Against this backdrop, the advantages of PLC have truly been recognized, becoming a new hot topic in communication research. This paper introduces a remote electricity meter based on PLC technology, presenting the hardware and software module division and specific implementation, as well as the communication interface with remote meter reading software and a simple simulated meter reading system. The system has initially realized power line communication, and the simulated meter reading communication of the PLC remote electricity meter is reliable. Keywords: PLC; remote electricity meter; interface; data acquisition 1 Introduction Low-voltage power lines are laid to transmit 50Hz power frequency energy and are a widely distributed line resource. For a long time, people have tried to transmit data and voice signals through them. With the advancement of signal modulation technology, the development of embedded hardware and software technology, and the continuous emergence of new integrated circuits in recent years, power line communication (PLC) has gradually moved from the laboratory to practical use, becoming one of the communication technologies with good development prospects. This paper presents the design and implementation of a remote single-phase multi-rate electricity meter based on PLC technology (hereinafter referred to as a remote electricity meter based on PLC technology). 2. Overall Hardware Design As shown in Figure 1, the hardware of the remote electricity meter based on PLC technology includes an MCF5271 main control board, a power acquisition board, and a PLC modem. These three circuit boards are relatively independent and not designed on a single circuit board. The power acquisition board is responsible for collecting power data. The MCF5271 main control board transmits data to the power acquisition board via interfaces such as SPI and IC, and simultaneously transmits data in Ethernet frames to the PLC modem via an MII interface conforming to the IEEE 802.3 standard. The PLC modem is responsible for the conversion between Ethernet frames and power line communication data.
