Abstract : Networks aggregating thousands of inexpensive sensor nodes enable users to monitor remote environments by accurately combining data from different nodes. These networks require robust wireless communication protocols that demand high efficiency and low latency. In this paper, we introduce and analyze the LEACH protocol—a micro-sensor network protocol architecture. It combines efficient cluster-based routing and media access with application-specific data fusion to achieve good performance in terms of system lifetime latency and sensing application technology. The LEACH protocol includes a novel distributed cluster architecture technology that can self-manage a large number of nodes, as well as algorithms that adapt to the cluster and change the cluster head position to distribute the energy burden among all nodes, and techniques that can allocate signal processing tasks to save transmission energy. Our aim is to extend the system lifetime of the LEACH protocol by orders of magnitude rather than multiple reflections. Keywords : Data fusion, Protocol architecture, Wireless micro-sensor network 1. Introduction Due to the development of sensor technology, low-power electronics, and low-power radio frequency, it has become possible to develop small, relatively inexpensive, low-power sensors, i.e., micro-sensors. These micro-sensors can be connected via wireless networks, and these wireless sensor networks represent a new paradigm. It can extract data from the environment and reliably monitor changing environments, including monitoring machine fault diagnosis and biological/chemical monitoring. Two main factors present significant challenges in this network design—transmission bandwidth and energy—which are more constrained than in local area networks. These constraints require innovative design approaches to effectively utilize bandwidth and energy. [Full text download of an application-specific wireless sensor network protocol architecture]
