Industrial Control Summary: Cognex, a world-leading supplier of machine vision systems, announced the new DS1000 3D laser profiling system. This system can calibrate inspections that cannot be performed by traditional 2D machine vision at the unit level.
The new DS1000 3D sensor:
Reading embossed or raised characters on things like car tires
Check for the presence of low-contrast items inside the box and packaging.
Identify surface defects and chips in low- or non-contrast items
Measure the height and tilt of the components to determine if they are aligned.
Calculate the volume and dimensions of the food portions.
"The DS1000 3D sensor is factory-calibrated, providing micron-level accuracy measured in actual units, making 3D applications easy to understand and deploy," said Joerg Kuechen, Business Manager of Vision Software at Cognex. He added, "Unlike other laser profilometers, the DS1000 system integrates the industry's most powerful 3D vision toolkit—VisionPro® software. With VisionPro, users can also add GigE cameras for 2D inspection tasks."
The DS1000 is an integrated system; Cognex's proprietary high-speed sensors and lasers are housed within an industrial IP65-rated enclosure. The DS1000 is available now.
