Abstract: Machine vision inspection technology possesses unparalleled technical advantages over other inspection schemes and traditional methods, and is widely used in various fields. Its high speed, high efficiency, and high precision are highly favored by industry users, and successful application cases abound.
1. The cost of inspecting and correcting PCB defects during process monitoring is far lower than the cost of doing so after final testing and inspection.
2. It can detect recurring errors as early as possible, such as misplacement of components or incorrect tray installation.
3. Providing SPC data for process engineers. The combination of statistical analysis functions of PCB inspection technology and SPC process management technology provides a powerful tool for timely improvement of SMT production processes, thereby significantly improving the yield of PCB assembly. With the expansion of modern manufacturing, production control is becoming increasingly important, and the demand for SPC data is constantly growing. The application of PCB inspection technology will become increasingly crucial.
4. It can adapt to the requirements of further increases in PCB assembly density. With the significant increase in the assembly density of electronic products, some traditional testing technologies, such as ICT, can no longer meet the development requirements of SMT technology. The emergence of 0402 chip components has made it impossible for ICT to detect them, while PCB testing technology is not affected by these factors.
5. Test program generation is extremely rapid. Test programs for PCB testing equipment can be generated directly from CAD data, which is very quick. Compared with ICT, its testing costs are also significantly reduced because there is no need to manufacture special fixtures.
6. Able to keep up with the production pace of the SMT production line. Currently, many factories rely mainly on manual visual inspection for PCB component inspection during the production process. However, with the increase in PCB size and the number of components, this inspection method has become unsustainable. PCB inspection technology can now achieve a speed of 0.1 seconds per frame, meeting the requirements for online inspection.
7. High reliability of testing. The key elements of testing are accuracy and reliability. Manual visual inspection always has its limitations, while PCB testing technology avoids these disadvantages and can maintain good accuracy and reliability.
8. Ensure product quality, reduce labor costs, and improve labor productivity.
9. Non-contact measurement, which will not damage or scratch the PCB board.
10. In addition, machine vision inspection technology can accomplish tasks that were previously impossible: traditional methods are often inadequate in handling some tiny corners and ducts. PCB inspection systems, however, can detect components and their spacing as small as 0.201 ( 0.3 mm pixel).
The advantages mentioned above alone demonstrate the application strength of machine vision in the PCB inspection industry, and further illustrate the appeal of its application in the industry.
